Info

The Davos Course for gastrointestinal surgery offers a varied and manifold programme of scientific sessions and practical exercises to surgeons in training. The aim of this course is to foster each participant’s knowledge and to develop and improve the individual practical skills in safe standard surgical techniques, both in conventional and laparoscopic surgery.

Based in Davos, Switzerland, the Davos Course for gastrointestinal surgery exists for more than 30 years and has become an essential part in the surgeon’s training program and is recognised by most European surgical societies to meet the criteria of the surgical training opportunities. The Davos Course welcomes each year around 220 young surgeons from more than 10 European countries and has taught “one safe way” of surgery to more than 6000 surgeons all over Europe since its foundation.

Virtual Reality Training

Surgical procedures have become more complex requiring surgeons to learn new skills quickly without interfering with the operating room efficiency or jeopardizing the patients’ care. This is a major problem especially for young surgeons at the beginning of their career. The Davos Course has therefore integrated Virtual Reality Training in the Basic Course. Besides the practical exercises the Virtual Reality Trainers get more and more an important factor in surgery. Participants in the basic course will join the Virtual Reality-exercises as they are scheduled during the week whereas those in the Intermediate and Advanced Course may attend in the open time slots.

Surgical Instruments

Surgical instruments for the open and laparoscopic practical exercises will be available from B. Braun / Aesculap for each working place (1 set for each 2 participants only).

Participants with odd registration numbers will be invited to pick up 1 set when registering at the beginning of the course and well before the first practical exercises on Saturday and to return it after the final assessment on Friday. A credit card guarantee or a cash deposit, which will be returned upon return of the complete set, has to be provided.

Confirmation and Diplomas

Certificates will be available at the end of the course module(s) at the course secretariat.
